Well, here I am. And boy is Prague spectacular! I swear every single time I turn a corner, my mind is re-blown by the beauty and wonder of this city. But before I get too off track drooling over this place, I'll give you a low down on how settling in and my initial explorations have gone.
When I first arrived, I began finding all of my friends instantly in the baggage claim area in the Prague airport, which was already a surreal feeling. The last time I saw Micah Parsons, Jose Jimenez, Steve Marino and Trish Robbins, it was around the last few days of sophomore year all the way back in May. I remember Micah telling me "See ya in Prague!" but I thought to myself there's no way that's a true statement. It just didn't feel real that the next time I would see my close friends would be in the middle of Europe, but I'm realizing fast that 'it just doesn't feel real' is a common theme of this place. We drove straight to our flat from the airport, which is gigantic! I have 5 roommates--3 girls and a Czech buddy named Yakub--and it still feels like we have too much space, which for anyone who is familiar with The TrapHouse knows is something I've needed in my new place of living.
After orientation, we spent the day exploring the surrounding neighborhood, which isn't really a neighborhood at all but rather just another part of town. There is a bar/pub on every block, and food everywhere you look. Cobblestone streets wind thick and thin through colorful buildings that are all connected so they just look like never-ending walls. After a few hours of wandering, myself and 4 new friends found a quaint restaurant in a courtyard by the main river to enjoy some lunch. I ordered a salami pizza which I found it very similar to 2 Amy's except much better. I've also enjoyed the beer here, which is both amazing and cheap. It actually is cheaper than water!! Life is good.
As I post more pictures you will hopefully begin to see what I mean when I go on and on about how beautiful this city is. As I walked around the city today, there were more times than I can count where I would have to stop walking just so I could take in everything I was seeing. It feels almost overwhelming, as if I literally can't enjoy it enough. We stood on one of the bridges that connects the East and West halves of the city around 4 this afternoon, and we all looked at each other and just stopped and stared. Churches and castles peak over the tops of the city's red roofs with medieval spires and clock towers interjecting (it's so European!). The river this afternoon was infested with paddle boats and canoes; restaurants lined the coast on both sides, and we stopped to have another 0.5L Pilsner in a old watermill along the river. Life is once again good. I am sure that this overwhelming feeling of wonder will subside as I come to turns with the fact that I live in this place now, but for now, I actually can't even handle it. I'm pissed my camera died before I got to take more pictures, but stay tuned! Tonight we are all going to a beer garden and then I'm sure Jose and I will hop to another bar or two before the night ends. I could write much more but I don't want to go overboard with my first post, though I feel like I could write about Prague for days already. The ironic part is that most of the day, I found myself purely speechless. I guess I'm finding it easier to write out my thoughts towards days end rather than on the spot.
TL:DR (too long, didn't read): The beer is great. Everything is cheap. I can't even handle how beautiful everything is and I've only seen a fraction this place. Pictures are on the way.
